INFORMATION LITERACY ( Ninth Week Reflection )

                                                   "NINTH WEEK

                                            REFLECTION"

“Tell me, and I will forget. Show me, and I may remember. Involve me, and I will understand”

Week eight has finished and we started with week 9. OMG!!! Week 9 for me was a stressful week because we had a lot of assignments to be submitted by this Friday. Alhamdulillah I still managed to finish all my assignments. Anyhow, during week 9 we were introduced to Information Analysis. Information Analysis is the ability to discover and quantify patterns in data of any kind, including numbers, symbols, text, sound and image. The relevant techniques include statistical and data mining or machine learning methods such as rule induction, artificial neural networks, genetic algorithms and automated précis systems. After that, we were introduced to Evaluation of Internet Sources. The availability and growth of the Internet offers all of us, the opportunity to find information and data from all over the world. Internet resources, in particular World Wide Web resources, continue to proliferate at an astonishing rate. Some experts say that a new site is placed online every 3 seconds!!It is possible for almost anyone to place anything on the Internet.

Moreover, we studied the Criteria for Evaluating Internet Sources. There are 7 steps to be taken when we are Evaluating Internet Sources. They are as below.
  •   Purpose
  •   Scope/Coverage/Comprehensiveness
  •   Authority
  •   Audience
  •   Information content
  •   Design and layout
  •   Access/Workability

Besides that, we had a discussion. During discussion we were given by a question the question was that what Authority is? We were discussing on this question and everyone was supposed to answer. The discussion was immensely interesting and I have learned about Authority that what Authority is all about.

WOW, the topic which I was waiting for long finally has come out, Plagiarism. Plagiarism is the act of taking another person's writing, conversation, song, or even idea and passing it off as your own. This includes information from web pages, books, songs, television shows, email messages, interviews, articles, artworks or any other medium. After studying this lesson I am fully able to understand what Plagiarism is all about. I can see most of the student they are copying their friends assignments and the give their assignments to their lecturer.

Over all, it was an interesting week but, a bit stressful and boring. Because, we had a lot of assignments and presentation. This was my last week reflection that I have added to my blog. I have tried my best on my blog and I have learned a lot of new experiences and gained a lot of knowledge. I owe great many thanks to my lecturer that she guided me and helped me a lot during my studies.

Sincerely,

Said Abid s/o Said Tahir
